FAQ

Cargo bikes come in two versions: with two- or three-wheels. Each version has its own advantages, depending on what you are looking for in a bike. A three-wheel cargo bike has two-wheels under the cargo box and one rear wheel. This provides extra stability, especially when standing still or driving slowly. So it is ideal if you are often on the road with children or heavy groceries. Moreover, the cargo box is usually more spacious, allowing you to carry that little bit extra. The two-wheeler, on the other hand, has only one-wheel under the box, which makes the bike lighter and a lot more maneuverable. Cornering is effortless and it cycles almost as smoothly as a regular bike.

When transporting your children in a cargo bike, safety is the most important thing. Therefore, it is recommended to check if the cargo bike has the following components. Visibility, a cargo bike should be highly visible through color, lights and reflectors. Sturdy Handlebar or cable steering, a handlebar should be sturdy and a cable steering is always double ended and therefore always safe. Tilt stoppers, some cargo bikes have tilt stoppers. These prevent the cargo bike from turning too sharply, which could cause it to tip over. Sturdy cargo box, the cargo bike should have a sturdy box that protects the children well in case of an incident. Hydraulic brakes, on an electric version, the brakes should be hydraulic to be strong enough in an emergency stop.

That depends on a few things, such as the weight you are carrying (e.g. children + groceries), the type of terrain (flat or hilly), and the assistance level you are using. On average, you can cycle between 40 and 80 kilometers with a full battery. Some models even reach up to 100 kilometers under ideal conditions. So for everyday use, such as going to school, the supermarket or an outing in the neighborhood, that is more than enough. And is the battery nevertheless almost empty? Then you can easily recharge it at home or at work, just like a laptop!

The difference between a cargo bike with a rear-wheel motor and a mid-motor is mainly in the riding feel and power. A rear-wheel motor pushes you forward, so to speak. This sometimes feels a bit unnatural, but is fine for flat rides and a lighter load. In addition, this type of motor is usually cheaper. A middle motor, on the other hand, sits near the pedals and provides a natural and powerful pedaling feel. This motor also uses the gears, making it easier to accelerate and climb hills. This makes it ideal for daily use with children or heavy shopping, but it is a bit more expensive. Do you prefer a smooth, strong and stable ride? Then the mid-motor is often the better choice.
